Something to consider when you've purchased your ideal canal boat!
Water Pollution
As the canal is not a fresh water source, there will be a degree of water pollution on the inland waterways. It is important to be aware of water pollution on the canals and rivers. It is also good to have knowledge of weil's disease incase you come in contact with contaminated water.
If you manage to cut yourself whilst moving your canal boat and then handle a rope which has been put in the marina or canal water, then there is a chance that your cut could be infected with Weil's disease.
Weil's disease is an infection which is carried by rats and transmitted by water. It can cause symptoms which are flu like and in sever cases can even cause death. It is very rare but it is something to be aware of if you live or work on the canals.
To prevent any chance of contracting the infection you are best to cover up any cuts on your hands and every time you move your canal boat around, wash your hands.
If you feel as though you may feel ill it is important to seek medical advise as soon as possible.
